General Questions
SafeTREC is a cell phone-based personal security network that helps keep you from harm, by giving you one-click emergency access to family, friends, and police.
At the press of a panic button it simultaneously alerts and mobilizes a select group of friends and family when you are in trouble and, if needed, gets your emergency directly to the nearest 911 emergency services dispatcher in seconds with complete information.
Downloading and installing the application on a mobile phone takes about two minutes. After registering and setting up your account, the "panic button" and other safety features are automatically enabled.
As long as you have a cell signal, our satellites can see the phone and the basic functions will be available.
For smart phones you must also have a data connection and then all functions will be operational.

There is a quick solution to this. As soon as you pick up on a call, you should immediately say, "Hello" or make some sort of statement. Our server has a circuit that detects and hangs up on voicemail machines so as to prevent them from distracting and stopping the emergency conference. This circuit detects a person by a vocal noise. In order to indicate to the server that you are a person, you should make some noise.
The app always sends your location to our server. Whether you refresh the map or not, your location is always sent to the server for our Call Center, your Safety Network and 9-1-1 to see.
In order to see the latest data on where your Safety Network is, you have to click on "Refresh". But whether you see it or not on your map, your location, and that of your Safety Network is always updated.
The best way to handle this is to uninstall and then reinstall the application. After you have reinstalled the app, you can login again but this time, with your proper login information.
We can only upgrade one person's account at no cost but we don't have the ability to activate their family plan. For you to be able to activate your family plan you are required to upgrade your account to full feature using your own credit card.

Your family and friends know what you look like. How tall? What color eyes? And what, if any, medical concerns you may have. Where are you located?
The Emergency Safety Profile eliminates frantic descriptions and differing interpretations.
Vital statistics, GPS location and your current photo are made available to the Safety Network and 911 responders instantly.
Minute-by-minute updates are done to keep the information current.
These vital statistics and your current photo are made available to the Safety Network and 911 Emergency responders instantly.
A Safety Network is a network of the subscribers' chosen personal family members or friends who accept the connection to be alerted and come to the person’s aid should the subscriber press his panic button. When the panic button is pressed the members of one’s safety network are contacted within minutes by use of email, SMS (text messages) and with the use of an open conference call so that they can rapidly assist.
When the Panic Button is pressed a live conference call is opened up between the cell phones of the subscriber, the 24/7 Response Call Center and the members of the subscribers Safety Network. This enables all to speak together to find out what is happening and resolve the matter rapidly without trying to reach the subscriber and receiving a busy signal.
There was a time when you could turn to your next-door-neighbor for help. That time is back. The Safe Neighbors Program allows any person signed in the program to help any person in their proximity who presses the Panic Button. If you or a family member need help and a neighbor is close by, they will get the alert and be able to act immediately.
That’s help for you “where you need it - when you need it”.
Why the Safe Neighbors Program is important
- You can get help from a neighbor immediately
- You can also help someone else when danger strikes them
- Share your known danger area with neighbors
As your location changes so does the level of threats.
In the city, a few blocks can mean the difference between safe passage and real trouble.
The best way to avoid danger is to know where is occurs. Using our Danger Formula, we give you a clear assessment of the danger in your current location so you can avoid it. The higher the level of threat the greater the danger.
Why Threat Levels are important
- Knowing threats in your location can help you avoid danger
- You always know if you are close to Sex Offender locations
- Threat level is a real time measurement of danger
- Crime statistics are automatically calculated into the threat level
- Easily identify places you should avoid
- You are automatically alerted if you are near a dangerous area
- Understand why an area is dangerous
Sex Offender and Crime proximity to your location are both good indications of an area’s Threat Level. Unlike a crime that happened yesterday, sex offenders are still there. That's why we incorporated sex offender information into the Threat Level calculation for any location. We also display sex offender data visually in an easy to understand map.
The sex offender feature also includes:
- Automatic Calculation in your Threat Level
- Real time Sex Offender Threat Analysis
- Real time Sex Offender Threat Alerts
- Visually located in relation to your location
A good indication of the Threat Level where you are located is the amount and type of crime in that area. That's why we incorporated local crime information into the Threat Level Formula for your location. We also display crime data visually in an easy to understand map.
Relevant Crime Data features also includes:
- Automatic Calculation in your Threat Level
- Real-time Crime Threat Analysis
- Real-time Crime Threat Alerts
- All types of crime
- Visually understand crime in your location
GPS
Global Positioning System (GPS) is a U.S. space-based global navigation satellite system. It provides reliable positioning, navigation, and timing services to worldwide users on a continuous basis in all weather, day and night, anywhere on or near the Earth which has an unobstructed view of four or more GPS satellites.
GPS has become a mainstay of transportation systems worldwide, providing navigation for aviation, ground, and maritime operations. Disaster relief and emergency services depend upon GPS for location and timing capabilities in their life-saving missions. The accurate timing that GPS provides facilitates everyday activities such as banking, mobile phone operations, the control of power grids, and, of course, geolocation.
Due in part to regulations encouraging mobile phone tracking, including E911, the majority of GPS receivers are built into mobile telephones, with varying degrees of coverage and user accessibility. SafeTREC uses GPS technology to determine your exact location, and uses the mobile phone's data connection to download maps and calculate danger formulas and threat levels in your vicinity.
Provided you are using a smart phone such as a Blackberry, iPhone, or Android then the GPS location should be accurate to longitude and latitude provided the SafeKidZone application is running on the cell phone, the phone is on and has battery power.
For example many BlackBerrys are powered by the SiRFstarIII chip which should be distinguished from GPS chipsets made by other manufacturers (Garmin or Trimble Inc for example). It can acquire and maintain a signal lock in urban or densely covered forest environments. It is very quick time to first fix (TTFF), which is the time it takes for a GPS receiver to lock onto the satellite signals and determine the initial position.
The GPS location is not available to non smart phone users.
No. If you were to use SafeTREC every day (which we hope you do) all day, you would only use 1 MB per day.
If it is a smart phone such as iPhone, Blackberry or Android it does.
Check with your carrier if you are uncertain.
Yes. Our locating capability is unlimited, and there are no hidden fees or extra costs.
No. When you register on our website you will identify who you allow to see your location. If you have not specifically allowed someone to see your location, then they will not.
There are 3 simple reasons,
- Your GPS is off.
- Your application is off.
- You turned one of the functions listed above on but immediately pressed the Panic Button not giving the GPS time to synchronise with our servers. It takes 1-2 minutes to sync depending on your GPS reception.
- Your GPS is off.
- Your application is off.
- When you turn either of those on it will take 1-2 minutes for our servers to sync depending on your GPS reception and cellular signal. Immediately pressing the Panic Button after turning your GPS or app on won't allow for your GPS to sync with our servers.
- If you are connected to WIFI, the phone may only use the location of the phone based on the location set by your internet provider. This situation has caused an incorrect GPS location by as much as 2 miles. This situation is caused by the operating system of your smartphone.
- You must wait 30-60 seconds for your GPS to pick up your location if it was previously off.
- GPS chips in phones are very accurate but they are not perfect and are often incorrect by several meters. Especially if you are indoors, your GPS location can be wrong by a large amount.
